Glam Junkie 2008 Pick

While I was making my favorite list of 2008, I found it's quite a headache to pick 20 out of the tons of good songs. It was a good year for music since many divas released new albums.

The 20 Favorite Singles in no particular order:

Mariah Carey - I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time
A genuine love song for people who are so in love, Mariah blended the sound of Motown and her multi-layered vocals together in this tropical mid tempo jam.

Mariah Carey - I'm That Chick
Mariah hasn't really written a dance song for years. This is the sound we wanted from her for so long. Rather than belting the hell out, Carey took a relaxing approach to perform it. Fresh!

Mary J Blige - Just Fine (Moto Blanco Club Vox)
There is no more drama in Mary's life, because she's winning, she won't change her life as it's just fine, fine, fine, fine, fine! Oooooh!

Janet Jackson - Feedback (Ralphi Rosario Dirty Club)
Sex is a symbol of Janet, that's what "Feedback" all about. Ralphi Rosario brought the original version to a darker territory that made Janet sounded sexier than ever.

Rihanna - Take A Bow
This song set a good break between her mid to up tempo singles off "Good Girl Gone Bad". Her determined "please!" and dismissive giggle are surely the most memorable elements.

Madonna - Give It 2 Me (Eddie Amador Club)
It must be the catchiest song from Madge's "Hard Candy" album. This 11-minute version is a total fierce dancefloor bliss. And the "get stupid" break is not included in it! Thank God!

Mariah Carey - Touch My Body
This single is kitsch but catchy. It's very enjoyable to sing along with the ad lib. Some people can't even help touching themselves when they listen to it. *GUILTY PLEASURE*

Alicia Keys - Like You'll Never See Me Again
This song is so mellow. If you treat someone like you'll never see him again, you will cherish his existence and not take him for granted. But how many really know what love is?

Britney Spears - Break The Ice (Tracy Young Club)
This club mix is just like what Britney whispers - "It's been a while. I know I shouldn't have kept you waiting. But I'm here now." I've been waiting a good mix like this for long, Brit.

Madonna - Miles Away (Johnny Vicious Club Remix)
Dear Johnny, thanks for bringing drama to this tasteless single. You saved the song, you not only made it listenable, but also enjoyable. Best regards, Glam Junkie

Mariah Carey - I Stay In Love (Jody Den Broeder Club Mix)
The original version is one of my favorites from "E=MC2", though it is a reminiscence of "We Belong Together". Jody Den Broeder made the dancefloor embraced Mariah once again.

Kelly Rowland - Daylight (Hex Hector Remix)
Kelly's singles always sound way better in remixed form. This Hex Hector mix reminds us the glory days of Hex. The build up and break down are flawless.

Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl (Jason Nevins Funkrokr Extended Mix)
Katy stormed the world with this catchy bumble gum. It's not hard for us to like her because she's so gay! Jason's mix is on point as the original rock vibe is kept.

Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight (Moto Blanco Club Mix)
I hate Moto Blanco because they are just same-sound-different-mix, but their cliche style works here. A guaranteed-to-get-the-party-started remix.

Kylie Minogue - The One (Freemasons Vocal Club Mix)
Freemasons stretched their co-penned and co-produced album version into a 9-minute glamorous tune. I'm the one, love me, love me, love me, love me.

Chris Brown - Forever
We are not sure if Chris Brown is advertising ecstacy here, but one thing for sure is dance music has made a great comeback to the mainstream this year.

Paula Abdul - Dance Like There's No Tomorrow (Oakenfold 12" Mix)
The success of American Idol brought Paula back to the spotlight, this Billboard Dance Club Play #2 single is a decent comeback that deserves putting on to my favorite list of 2008.

Rihanna - Disturbia (Jody Den Broeder Remix)
A collaboration of lyrical genius with upbeat rhythmic cadence, this 7-minute remix is close to the original that non-remix fans would also like it. And it's her 8th dance #1!

Cyndi Lauper - Into The Nightlife
Although it is not as catchy as the previous singles from the all-dance album "Bring Ya To The Brink", it's a grower. Do you know Colton Ford appeared in the video dancing? *HOT*

2008 is my fruitful year too. I reformed myself in the first half year and someone special came in the forth quarter. It's been awhile that I almost lost hope. I am blessed and overwhelmed with gratitude, thanks for bringing new meaning to my life. I dedicate the last favorite song to you.

何韻詩 - 韻律泳 (Denise Ho - Synchronized Swimming)
Lyricist Wyman Wong may get inspiration from the Beijing Olympic Games. Taking the process of practising synchronized swimming as a metaphor to that of developing an everlasting relationship between two people is an apt idea. "難得我和你磨合裡跳出真正樂趣"

Hoping it will be the good start of 2009. Happy new year!
